Freedom of Information (FOI) Requests

Freedom of Information requests are formal requests made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) for access to records in the custody or control of Skilled Trades Ontario, subject to limited and specific exemptions.

Skilled Trades Ontario is committed to transparency and accountability while protecting personal privacy in accordance with the Act. For general inquiries about Freedom of Information requests, please contact the FOI Office at FOI@skilledtradesontario.ca or 647-847-3002.

How to Submit an FOI Request

FOI requests must be submitted in writing. You may complete the Freedom of Information Request Form or submit a written letter or email.

Your request must:

    1. Clearly describe the records you are seeking; and
    2. Include the required $5.00 application fee.

Providing sufficient detail will assist staff in locating the requested records.

If you are requesting access to your own personal information, you will be required to provide sufficient identification to verify your identity. Where a request is made on behalf of another individual, written authorization from that individual must be provided.

Processing Time

Skilled Trades Ontario will respond to requests within 30 calendar days, as required under the Act. Time extensions may be applied where permitted under the Act.

Submitting Your Request

Written requests and supporting materials, such as completed request forms and copies of identification, may be submitted by email or mail.

Requests submitted by email will not be processed until the $5.00 application fee has been received.

The $5.00 application fee must be submitted by mail in the form of cash (exact change only), cheque, or money order payable to Skilled Trades Ontario.

Once your request and application fee have been received:

  • The FOI Office will review and clarify the request if needed
  • A search for responsive records will be conducted
  • A fee estimate may be issued, where applicable
  • A formal decision letter will be issued
